Dexter Trailer Idler Axle w/ EZ Lube Hubs Installation- Video
Today on our boat trailer, we're going to be installing the Dexter Idler Axle with EZ Lube hubs. Part# 205451-EZ-72-10. Now, to begin our install, we're first going to go ahead and remove both wheels. Keeping in mind, each process we do here on one side will get repeated identically on the opposite side. If its been a while since you've had the lug nuts off, we're going to go ahead and spray them down with a spray lubricant. I'm also going to go ahead and spray down the Leaf Spring Shackle bolt hardware so the penetrate can start working before we get to actually removing that hardware. more

Dexter Trailer Axle Beam w/ Standard Spindles - 3,500 lbs Installation- Video
Today on our tandem axle trailer we're going to be installing the new Dexter Trailer Axle Beams with standard spindles 89 inches long and a 3,500-pound capacity, part number T3584F-8974. When removing the axle, we're just going to cut the old newel bolts off, as they will not be reused. Each process we do here to one side will get repeated identically on the opposite side. With bolt assemblies removed, we can pull the axle out of our trailer and prepare to install the new axle. We're now ready to put our axle in place. Here is the manufacturer's tag, and the tag will go to the rear of the trailer. Then, apply at the spring seat on the axle with the nib that sticks out the top of the leaf spring pack. Once you have them lined up, we'll use the new U bolt kit to secure it. more

Today on our tandem axle trailer we're going to be installing the new Dexter trailer axle with electric brakes on easy-lube spindles, with 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern for your wheel, 89" long and a 3,500 pound weight capacity, part number 35545E-ST-EZ-89. We'll go ahead and start disassembly. We'll need to remove the dust cap first. Now I'm going to go ahead and clean off some of the grease so we can get to the keeper pin for the castle nut. Castle nut is what holds the outer hub assembly together on the axle. For this style castle nut the keeper is a metal tab that's bent over from the washer that is actually secured underneath it. more

Both assemblies removed, we can pull axle out of our trailer and prepare to install the the new axle. We're now ready to put our axle in place. Here is the manufacturer's tag, and the tag will go to the rear of the trailer. Then ply up the spring seat on the axle with the nib that sticks out of the top of the Leaf Spring pack. Once you have them lined up, we'll us the new U-bolt kit to secure it. Our plate will go on the bottom, U-bolt coming down over top of the axle, on both inside and outside of the Leaf Spring pack. more

It is constructed of a high strength steel. Also if you'll notice this is an underslung design and by that, that means the spring seats right here, there's one here, one back here. We do ship it with the spindle nut, the D washer and the nut retainer included, one on each end, and when we do ship this, it's not just shipped as it is right now. Basically, what we would do is on the machined end, where the spindles are, we would put grease on it to protect it and then wrap it, and then, we take this very thick, corrugated tube that we would slide over it to protect it. more

Today we're going to review part number T20BTR-EZ-7258. This is the Dexter Idler Trailer Axle with the straigh easy lube spindles. This one is 72 inches long and has a 2200 pound weight capacity. Now when we do ship this to you, it would actually have the spindles covered, we use this heavy car gated tubing and then we tape in on around the spindle. Actually before we put the tubing on, we will actually have grease that we cover the machine surface with to help protect it and then the tubes put on and then taped around it. I left the one on that end just to show you how we do ship them. This one I've taken it off because I want to show you the spindle. Now this actual beam will act as part of your trailer suspension system. You can use it to replace an axle on your trailer or you can use it to fabricate a suspension to fit your application. It's made of a high strained steel construction. On the natural basically, there will be an actual bend right here in the center. As you can see there's space under there. Once your spring seats are on the bottom here, you'll see the bend goes up and the reason they do that, this will help create a 0 camber angle for even road to tread contact across the width of your trailer's tires. Basically having the center ride a bit higher and then the sides bent lower, this will allow the axle to give just enough to compensate for the low. more

Today we're going to review part number 35545I-EZ-89. This is the Dexter Trailer Axle with the Idler Hubs. The bolt pattern is a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. It's an easy lube design and has a 3500 pound weight capacity. Now this Axle being will act as part of your trailer suspension system. It is used to replace an axle on your trailer and it's made of a high strength steel construction. Now this is a under slung design. If you can see the spring seats on each end are welded to the under side of an axle for mounting your lease springs to. The under slung design will give you a low ride height which makes it easier to load and unload your trailer. Now you might notice in the very center here, there's a bend near the center of the axle, this is what ensures the proper camber angle. more
